This is what Amazon is saying about Become the Force: 9 Lessons on How to Live as a Jediist Master – For anyone who has watched and fallen in love with the Star Wars films and wanted to become a Jedi (just as Daniel M Jones did as a young boy). This is the first and only Jedi Bible.

Daniel M Jones founded the Church of Jediism in 2007 following the Jedi Census phenomenon of 2001; it now has over 500,000 members around the world. This is the book his fans have been waiting for. In it, Daniel outlines the Jedi perspective and provides practical tools for anyone interested in gaining a deeper understanding of how to use the Force in everyday life. A metaphor for the universal life energy that connects us all, the Force can be both light and dark, good and bad. Now, more than ever, it is our responsibility to overcome the Dark Side. This book does not aim to convert, but to inspire its readers to live a life of meaning and purpose according to the universal spiritual teachings of “the way of the Jedi”.

It includes:
Daniel’s own fascinating spiritual journey and how overcoming personal struggles has awakened him to his purpose.
A complete toolkit that will allow anyone to genuinely embrace “the way of the Jedi” and use Jedi teachings to empower mind, body, heart and spirit.
A comprehensive explanation of Jediism as a spiritual movement (a universal desire for self-awareness, spiritual awakening, peace, love and harmony) rather than a religion.

Become the Force shows that the Jedi-minded among us might usher in a new spirituality and shift in global consciousness towards peace and harmony that is more powerful than any we can possibly imagine.

Daniel is very careful to point out that Jediism isn’t a religion. The word “church” is used as it was originally intended “a group of like minded people”. Jediism is a philosophical movement. The aim is to give people tools to help them make sense of the world using the teachings of Star Wars.

This might sound laughable to some people but actually the films were created with just that in mind. In a world where many people are increasingly disillusioned with the religious and philosophical choices we have been presented with over the years, why not update the concept of a religious text to include sci-fi? The ideas are no more fanciful relative to our understanding of the world than Christian or Hindu religious texts were to the people who originally created them (and let’s not forget that every religious text was created by man, wherever you believe the inspiration came from, the actual text was written by man.).

Although I wasn’t involved in the writing of Become the Force, I am honoured to have been asked to create a mindfulness course for the new training modules which will accompany this ground breaking book.

It’s times like this having a videographer/musician husband comes in very handy!

After weeks of creating the course we spent a day filming in our front room, I don’t know what the neighbours would have thought when they walked past and saw this in the middle of the room!

Here is the trailer for my mindfulness course. I’m so proud of the production of these videos. We’re a good team me and my hubby!

If you want to find out more about the other courses, which will be available through the Church of Jediism website next week, you can watch all the trailers on their YouTube Channel.

MCM Comic Con London – a magical day!

Never in a million years did I ever think I would be asked to speak on a panel at MCM Comic Con London. But yesterday I did just that along with some of the other members of the Become the Force team; Jo Angel, Daniel M Jones and Dan Jones.

I am not even going to pretend that I wasn’t a little nervous as I approached the imposing ExCel building and saw the swarms of people. Wow am I glad I stepped out of my comfort zone and agreed to do this event though!

As I walked along the dock surrounded by Power Rangers, Disney princesses, Dr Who Characters, every costume you can imagine I realised that unlike anywhere else I had ever been, everyone fit in. Everyone felt comfortable. Whatever your passion, whatever your gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, age or religion you can turn up at Comic Con and experience a warmth and energy like I have never experienced anywhere else.

All day we talked to complete strangers and were met with friendly, happy responses. People felt completely comfortable paying each other complements and asking for photos with other visitors knowing they would be met with smiles and joy. A total stranger ask me for a photo. I was a little shocked but of course agreed (my costume was tame compared to most!), but I asked her curiously why she wanted a photo of me and her reply was simply; “I like your face”. Where in the world would that happen other than Comic Con.

Meeting the rest of the team

Trying to find anyone was almost impossible. I managed to get enough phone signal to meet up with Ian and the children after we had to enter through different ends of the building, but it’s a good job the panel had already arranged to meet outside the Platinum Suite before we arrived otherwise we would have been lost in sea of cosplay.

I had already met a few of the Become the Force team and it was great to get together with them again.  Some of the trainers I had not yet, until yesterday, had the opportunity to meet; Dan Jones (an amazing hypnotist and author), Sonia Ducie (the UK’s leading Numerologist) and Daniel M Jones, Founder of the Church of Jediism and author of the book Become the Force: 9 Lessons on How to Live as a Jediist Master.

There has been an instant bond between all the team members every time we have got together. The lovely Dan Jones, (who I have talked to online but met in person for the first time yesterday), arrived and presented me with a pile of his books! He thought might be useful in my work with children and schools. Such a thoughtful and generous gift, it took my breath away. They are wonderful books too I can’t wait to use them.

I can’t explain it, but every person I have met in association with this amazing movement, I have felt instantly at ease with and a genuine warmth and love for. It makes working together such a joy.

I managed to find Jo first so we decided to go down to the autograph area and talk to Warwick Davis to see whether he would be free to come and join the panel. Warwick is a well known supporter of the Church of Jediism and we thought it was worth a try. Unfortunately, he was unable to come along as he was scheduled to be signing autographs, but it was such a pleasure to talk to him and meet him in the flesh. (My children are very jealous now as they love him and only glimpsed him from a distance.)

It is never easy introducing a new concept or idea to the world, but one thing which became clear very quickly was how passionate the panel all are about this project. We all have different backgrounds and expertise, but, we are all involved because we want to help people and to make the world a better, more accessible and accepting place.

The panel went brilliantly (even if I do say so myself!). We all took a deep breath and just talked from the heart about why we got involved and what the movement means to us. Whether you buy into the philosophy we are promoting or not, there is no question that the people involved in this movement are dedicated, passionate individuals who care deeply.

I’m delighted to say that we have already been asked back next year, which is amazing.

What next?

Well, today I am exhausted. We went down to London as a family on Friday to go to the History of Magic, Harry Potter Exhibition at the British Library so I have had two days of walking round London and being on my feet a lot. So, today I am resting, writing and doing many interesting things that I can access from my seated position.

As for the Become the Force team, we will all be getting together again very soon, at the YouTube headquarters in London, for the book launch on the 23rd November, so that will be very exciting. The website is also launching that day, and the course I have created will then be available, along with everyone else’s amazing teachings.

After that? Who knows.

It is a very exciting movement which does not seek to indoctrinate or convert (you can be a Christian Jediist or a Buddhist Jediist) so it is completely inclusive. What it seeks to do is empower, educate, enlighten and explain.

Why I decided to Become the Force…

You may have seen on my social media that I have been working with Become the Force as one of their Master Trainers. I am really excited about this new project. Not least because it has given me the opportunity to work closely with my husband, Ian. He is an amazing videographer and helped me to create my online course.

When I mention to people what I am doing it is often met with a smile at first. Honestly when I was first asked by Theresa Cheung, I wasn’t sure it was something I could get involved with. However, once I spoke to her and she explained the project to me more fully I got goose bumps.

This is an incredible movement.

When I read her initial email and it mentioned the Church of Jediism, I have to admit I did think it was either a joke or that I should ignore it. I had an image of pews full of people wearing Jedi robes praying to an icon of Yoda on an altar.

That couldn’t be further from reality.

You may remember that in the 2001 census there was a movement to put Jedi as your religion. That was because for the first time it was possible. This resulted in 390,000+ people stating that there religion was Jedi.

This was a movement. An act of rebellion you could argue, however, it was made possible because of the Church of Jediism.

So, why Star Wars?

Over twenty years ago I was studying for my teaching degree. As part of my course I took a module on Theology through Film and Literature. It was probably my favourite Theology course. We looked at symbolism and representations of religion in films and books. As part of that course we studied the Star Wars Trilogy (as it was in those days). At that point the films pricked my interest again. I had always been aware of the characters and stories. I was born in the 70s. Every boy in my play school had a Star Wars action figure. As I got older I watched the films, most people my generation did. However, because I had been reminded of the depth of the films as part of my degree when Episode I came out I went to see it at the cinema and subsequently saw all the other films too.

“Be mindful of your thoughts, Anakin. They betray you.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi

The next generation

The point when the films really came into their own for me though was when my son was 3 years old. We were on a birthday trip to Legoland. As we were leaving decided to pop into the Star Wars mainland models exhibition. (https://www.legoland.co.uk/explore-the-resort/land-views/the-beginning/attractions/lego-star-wars-miniland/) My son was instantly captivated by these characters. He talked about nothing else for days. In the end we decided to introduce him to the films (after having the compulsory discussion about whether to show him Episode I or Episode IV first of course – and no I’m not sharing what we decided!). Well, that was it, he watched them on loop for about 3 years until something else crept into his awareness.

Because he was so young I watched the films with him. He wasn’t scared, but I didn’t want him to have questions or be worried about anything. By this time I had done all my Reiki training and broadened my understanding of universal energy considerably since I was at college. Suddenly I found I was watching the films with very different eyes.

Star Wars and mindfulness

The more I thought about it, the more I realised that Star Wars is the perfect fable for teaching a modern generation about the importance of a good moral code. How your decisions can affect your whole life and most importantly explain universal energy and quantum physics. All that in a series of sci-fi films/books, who would have thought?

Because of this link I created a Star Wars themed lesson plan for teachers a few years ago to help them engage more reluctant students in relaxation and mindfulness. It was thanks to this lesson plan that Theresa found me when she was looking for a trainer in mindfulness and holistic therapies.

The more I have worked with this wonderful group of people the more certain I am that this spiritual movement is a real force for the light and will change lives around the world. The wonderful new book which Theresa has written with Daniel M. Jones, the founder of the Church of Jediism, combined with the online classes which will be launching soon and all the other amazing resources on the website will really make a difference to many people who are searching for answers.

If you have any questions about this amazing project please let me know, I really am passionate about its potential for good.
